“Indoor air quality” is one of the most important things nowadays in the modern society where indoor activities are increasing. Among the various factors affecting the indoor air quality, the pollutants generated from the indoor building materials take up a considerable proportion, and accordingly, the indoor air quality control law is used to evaluate the emission amount of the indoor building material pollutants to restrict the manufacturing and distribution, maintain indoor air quality adequately, and protect people’s health from harmful substances.

Taesung Environmental Research Institute is designated as a KOLAS international authorized testing institute in the construction material evaluation field.

Small Chamber SystemSmall chamber system
The small chamber system consists of devices for measuring the emission of pollutants emitted from the building materials. It is designed to maintain constant temperature, relative humidity and ventilation rate, supply clean air within the discharge test chamber and quantitative samples will be collected at the outlet.
These devices must be designed to comply with KS M 1988-2/ISO 16000-9/JIS A1901 test standards.


1. 20L Small Chamber

This is the chamber into which the specimen enters. The internal volume is 20L in principle.

2. Air Sample Collection Device

Air samples are taken at the small chamber outlet. The air sample line must be directly connected to the airflow at the chamber outlet.

3. Specimen Fixture

It fixes the test specimen so that it does not move. It should be fixed with screws.

4. Temperature and Humidity Control and Monitoring Device

The temperature and relative humidity of the air flowing into the chamber are kept constant and monitored continuously through the indicator.

5. Flow Control Device

It continuously controls the constant flow rate and number of ventilation.

6. Clean Air Supply Device
(Filter System)

This is a purifying device that supplies pure air.

7. Constant Temperature Chamber

It keeps the temperature inside the 20L small chamber constant.

The major components that affect grade in the evaluation of small chamber method are identified; the materials contained in the building material are analyzed and detected; the materials that emit harmful substances are found. Although there is no information on the material evaluation in the process test method, it is easy to identify the cause of the emission of harmful substances and the analysis result data are provided to the manufacturer / importer.

Article 11 of the Indoor Air Quality Management Act prohibits the use of building materials that emit pollutants in excess of the standards stipulated in the Enforcement Regulations of the Indoor Air Quality Management Act when constructing apartment buildings.Therefore, the request for pollutant emission test of building material should be referred to the designated testing institute. Taesung Environmental Research Institute is designated as a test institute for checking the emission of pollutants in building materials.
